    About

Love theatre? Want to be a part of something exciting? Then it’s time for you to join our Young Theatre Makers!

After our successful sessions back at the theatre, we are thrilled that Young Theatre Makers will be taking place in our building once again in Spring 2022. Workshops will take place at the theatre over the course of twelve Sundays in January – April. We have thoroughly prepared and modified our building and the way we work to provide participants with an environment that is safe and reassuring, as well as exciting and enjoyable!

During the YTM autumn term, children will learn new skills, meet new people and really develop their talents as a performer. Our sessions are energetic, challenging, educational and fun!

We will explore and develop a wide range of theatre skills, which may include:

    • Movement
    • Clowning
    • Storytelling
    • Voice and communication
    • Trust and team-building
    • Rehearsals for performances
    • Script work
    • Devising (where young people can create and develop their own ideas)

The aims of our classes are to:

    • Inspire young people to engage in theatre and the arts.
    • Enable young people to explore their creativity and imagination, build confidence, have fun and make new friends.

    Meet our YTM Directors:

    Xahnaa Adlam
Xahnaa is a Bristol-born director, theatre maker, facilitator and performer. She attended the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama on the BA Drama, Applied Theatre and Education course. Xahnaa works frequently with the Bristol Old Vic’s Engagement department and is the co-founder and the Creative, Pastoral Care Director for Young Six Six. She also facilitates and directs with Travelling Light Theatre Company and was the Assistant Director on Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory’s The Place at The Bridge, which played at Tobacco Factory Theatres in May 2021. Within her practice, Xahnaa uses theatre to assist people, creating environments where the creative energy and direction is participant-driven. Xahnaa believes in shaping a space to anchor the work –  it is the participants, through their growth, exploration and collaboration, who will fill it in.
