First performed in 1953, Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett is an undeniable classic of 20th century literature. We’re delighted to present it as our first major solo production, directed by Mark Rosenblatt.
Estragon: What do we do now?
Vladimir: Wait
Estragon: Yes, but while waiting
Vladimir: What about hanging ourselves?
Two hungry, battered drifters wait by a dead tree. They might have been here yesterday. And they might well come back tomorrow. Unless Mr Godot arrives first. Which he might. If they’re lucky. Which they don’t tend to be.
65 years old, but as fresh and urgent as ever, Waiting for Godot is Samuel Beckett’s iconic play about the struggle for purpose, the power of friendship and the hunt for a pair of decent boots.
Mark Rosenblatt, Associate Director at West Yorkshire Playhouse from 2013-2016, leads a team of local and national artists, including Designer Janet Bird (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Theatr Clywd), Composer and Sound Designer Dave Price (Gecko & Cymbeline, RSC), our own Matthew Graham for Lighting Design (Othello & Cinderella: A Fairytale) and Clowning Director Bim Mason (Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Circomedia).
