Homer’s epic poem is retold in an extraordinary dance theatre production, brought to you by the team who created the multi-award-winning Dracula.
The King, Odysseus (performed by Christopher Tandy) separated from his family for ten years of brutal war, faces another ten year struggle to return home, as a reckless God drags him on an epic journey across oceans to strange lands and the darkness beyond. Unfortunately, due to injury, Jonathan Goddard will be unable to perform in Bristol as previously advertised. The roles of the Gods will be performed by other members of the company.
Immortal beauties, shape shifters, monsters and sorcerers both guide and torment the king as he hurtles towards a savage and desperate reunion with his Queen.
Mark Bruce Company present a vision of a broken world, from faded New York pageants to islands of fantasy; brutal seas, battlefields and a gateway to Hades.
This new dance theatre production is set to music ranging from Mozart to Mark Lanegan; Sacred Arias to The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, and an originally composed score.
This Odyssey is of now – contemporary horror and fantasy splintering from ancient myth, the themes universal: how we face our mortality and the driving force of the Gods inside us.
We were immensely proud to co-produce Dracula with the Mark Bruce Company. So we’re very excited to be helping them to present this, their latest production, at Circomedia. You’re in for a treat.

We’re fans of found spaces and, since 2005, Circomedia have made their space in St Paul’s Church completely their own. It’s a vital space for not only circus but dance as well; a genre we’d like to see much more of in Bristol.
How to get there
St. Pauls, Portland Square, BS2 8SJ
From Bristol City Centre It is 2 minutes’ walk from Cabot Circus Shopping Centre. There is limited metered parking nearby and an NCP at Cabot Circus.
From BS3 It is 15 minutes by car or 30 minutes by bus (take the 24 to Broadmead then it’s a 7 minute walk).
NB These directions are only a guide. We recommend planning your journey in advance.
