Raph Clarkson brings his Songs for Childhood project, and music from his album This Is How We Grow – encompassing music of play, joy, peace and connection.
Expect groovy, jazz-infused interactive songs and heartfelt celebrations and meditations around childhood imagination and curiosity.
As part of his wide-ranging work as a workshop leader/facilitator, Raph has been commissioned by, amongst others, Sinfonia Viva, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the Britten Sinfonia to write music for children, and he is delighted to extend this offering of music to Tobacco Factory Theatres and what is now his local community in South Bristol.
Raph is joined by the extraordinary pianist Phil Merriman, himself a brilliant jazz improviser, educator and composer. The duo have been collaborating together since meeting at The University of York in 2005.
“It’s a rare attempt to combine a musician’s educative and artistic career, rooted in meaningful memories of childhood friendships, and love and respect for the children he’s taught.” – jazzwise magazine
“This is a brave and very personal album that also manages to be whimsical and charming, eclectic and eccentric, and very English.” – The Jazz Mann blog
