    About

For more than twenty years, Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory  (STF) staged world-class productions of plays by Shakespeare and other classic authors at  Bristol’s Tobacco Factory Theatres. The company gained widespread critical and public attention,  with The Times dubbing it ‘one of the most exciting in the land’. They toured work across the UK and Europe, before ceasing as a producing company during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this special event, join Andrew Hilton, STF’s founder and long-serving  Artistic Director, in conversation with Sir Christopher Frayling, award-winning writer, broadcaster and former Chair of Arts Council England, to discuss the company’s extraordinary legacy and renowned approach to staging Shakespeare – one detailed in Andrew’s fascinating book Shakespeare on the Factory Floor, out now – and reflect on current trends in Shakespeare production.

Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate an acclaimed, vibrant part of Bristol’s cultural landscape, and to put your own questions to Andrew.

The event will be followed by a book signing of Shakespeare on the Factory Floor
