The only thing more devastating than finding out Santa Claus doesn’t exist… is finding out that he does.

Christmas is a time for joy and happiness, but there is a sinister secret at the heart of the stories we tell. Douglas Walker unwraps the shocking true origins of Santa Claus in a one-man epic taking in 100 years of history and almost as many characters.

When the rich and powerful have something to hide, to whom do they turn? How can a man disappear when his face is known all over the world? And just who is paying for all the toys?

Treading a fine line between fact and fairy tale, comedy and conspiracy theory, Of Christmas Past is a funny, festive story for grown-ups. Spanning the entire 20th century, and with a cast of characters including everyone from Rasputin to Pablo Escobar, Edward VIII to Elvis, Of Christmas Past is a kaleidoscopic carousel which asks, “What would happen if you actually met Santa Claus..?”

All Spielman Theatre performances on sale from August 2021 are currently sold with a reduced capacity and with unreserved seating in order that we can maintain social distancing. For the performance, different groups will be seated in the auditorium with distance between them. There will also be a range of measures that enable your safe journey through all of the building. We may increase capacity and relax measures once we are certain it’s safe to do so, however we will guarantee at least one socially distanced performance per week for all shows with a run of at least five performances – see more below. Read more about our Covid safety measures this autumn.

The following performance will be guaranteed as socially distanced and this will not change regardless of external circumstances. Audiences are asked to wear face coverings for this performance, unless exempt:
