Directed by John Nicholson
Following its sold out performance at Tobacco Factory Theatres as part of Bristol Festival of Puppetry in 2015, we are thrilled once again to present this show, featuring slapstick, mime, puppetry and a LOT of cardboard, from a company at the forefront of British puppetry.

Two clowns trapped in a cardboard world…
Dik and Adam are clowns! They couldn’t fight their way out of a paper bag, let alone a surreal cardboard world. Why are they there and what are they supposed to be doing? They know something sinister is afoot (wearing really big shoes…) and they need to get out before it’s too late. Join them on a ridiculous, anarchic, often hysterical and sometimes terrifying quest for freedom.
Formed in 2000 and based in Bristol, Pickled Image specialises in puppetry for live performance and theatre. Since its inception, the company has gained international recognition for their darkly humorous visual productions.
Between them, Pickled Image has over twenty years of experience performing and creating shows specialising in puppetry and they have won many awards for their work on the international touring circuit. Other Pickled Image hits at Tobacco Factory Theatres include Shop of Little Horrors and Santa’s Little Trolls and we can’t wait to have them back with us.
Meet the Coulrophobia Clowns: We spoke to company co-director and performer Dik Downey about his inspiration, performing heroes and big (clown) shoes to fill in our latest blog post.
