Oliver Twist Community Performance

    Oliver Twist Community Performance

CELEBRATING OUR COMMUNITY WITH SPECIAL PERFORMANCE OF  OLIVER TWIST

Earlier today members of our local community enjoyed a special performance of Oliver Twist. Our community truly is at the heart of Tobacco Factory Theatres’ work, and to celebrate the success of our current in house production of Oliver Twist, this afternoon we invited local youth projects, refugee charities and organisations working with children and young people free of charge to experience the magic of theatre.

The first production under new Artistic Director Heidi Vaughan, this contemporary and thoroughly Bristol-inflected adaptation of Dickens’ enduring story, has captured the imagination of over 17,000 audience members since opening in December, injecting these famous characters with a more local flavour than their Victorian counterparts.

The show was written by Olivier Award-winning Bristol-Based playwright Adam Peck, with musical compositions from Seamas Carey; the pair also co-wrote the many memorable songs that mark key moments in the narrative.

Heidi Vaughan said; “Tobacco Factory Theatres are passionate about making theatre truly accessible to everyone. While we’re proud to offer affordable concessionary tickets and Financial Difficulty ticket options across our programme, we are fully aware that the reality of the cost-of-living crisis is hitting our community hard and we need to go that one step further.

Thanks to the huge generosity and support of Theatre Works, who are a charity dedicated to providing theatre and related educational experiences to children and young people who might not normally have access to the theatre, 175 free tickets have been made available to local children. A further 100 tickets have also been offered to community groups and charities by Tobacco Factory Theatres for our production of Oliver Twist.”

“We’re also very grateful to Marshfield Ice Cream who have very kindly donated delicious ice-creams for all attenders. I really can’t wait to personally welcome a full house for this special community performance of Oliver Twist to round off a record-breaking run for a Christmas Show at TFT and enjoy an ice-cream too!”

We want to thank every single person who has attended our show over the last 7 weeks. You have made this a wonderful experience for the whole team here, including the cast, creative team, front of house and the office staff. We will look back on this show with smiles on our faces for many years to come.

Oliver Twist has four more performances left this weekend. You can book your tickets here.
