    We are thrilled to announce the cast for our upcoming production of A Christmas Carol – complete with two grumps, three ghosts, and some proper Bristol Legends!!

    sCROOGE – dIK dOWNEY

    Dik began his performing career at Glastonbury in 1983, painted yellow and playing kazoo while someone lay on broken cornflakes. He then travelled Europe with the Hippypunks as a terrible juggler, fire-eater, escapologist and clown.

    Back in the UK, he trained at Fool Time Circus School before joining Desperate Men, then Green Ginger, performing and making for their shows Slaphead, P.R.A.T.S and Frank Einstein: Rewired. In 2000, Dik co-founded Bristol puppetry and theatre company Pickled Image. In 2019, he formed Opposable Thumb Theatre with Adam Blake, touring their anarchic clown shows Coulrophobia and Big Boys Don’t Cry worldwide.

    His 2025 solo show, Don Quixote (is a very big book), comes to Tobacco Factory Theatres in February.

     

    Marley – Lucy Tuck

    Lucy’s credits for Tobacco Factory Theatres include Cinderella: A Fairytale, The Borrowers, The Last Voyage of Sinbad the Sailor and 101 Dalmatians (with Travelling Light).

    Her other theatre credits include A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Handspring Puppet Company & Bristol Old Vic); Sleeping Beauty (Bristol Old Vic); The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe (RSC and Leeds Playhouse); Queens of the Coal Age and Beryl (New Vic Theatre); The Snow Queen (Storyhouse); Oi Frog (Kenny Wax); and There’s Something About Typhoid Mary (Living Spit).

    Other work includes commercials for Greenpeace and Tesco Mobile, comedy short Small Town Politics (Sky Arts and Six Toe Cat Productions), and compering the Halle Family Christmas Concert for several years.

    Curtains The Ghost – Douglas Walker

    Douglas is an actor, writer and comedian.

    His theatre credits include Under Milk Wood (Theatr Clwyd), The Visit (National Theatre), Sherlock in Homes (Royal and Derngate) and Half Light (The Place & Arnolfini).

    He has written and performed a trilogy of solo sketch shows (Möglich, Komischer, and Zuschauer), which toured internationally, and two comic plays, 2018’s Of Christmas Past, and 2023’s My Father’s Nose.

    He is a member of improvised comedy troupe Racing Minds (Aaaand Now For Something Completely Improvised), and a former member of Degrees of Error (Murder She Didn’t Write).

     

    Spoiler The Ghost – lara j west

    Lara trained at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and has worked across theatre, film, television, radio and voice-over. She wrote and performed the one-woman musical One Kiss at the Belgrade Theatre, Albany Theatre and The Other Palace, London.

    Her theatre credits include The Count of Monte Cristo, The Wizard of Oz, The Beaux Stratagem, Arabian Nights, Corpse and The Coventry Mystery Plays.

    Television credits include Coronation Street, Doctors, Peak Practice, Ultraviolet and Casualty. Her other work includes the film The Woodlanders, BBC Radio 4’s Home Front and Hillcrest, and narrating twenty audiobooks.

     

    boo the ghost – simeon wynne

    Simeon Trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Theatre credits include Murray in Clueless the Musical (Churchill Theatre, Bromley).

    Credits whilst training include Claudio in Much Ado About Nothing, Wally O’Hara in The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window, Andrew/Ensemble in The Book of Dust, Mikey in Love Steals Us From Loneliness, Jake in Consent and Alex in This is Not a Coup (Richard Burton Company).

    Screen credits include Jake in short film Showmance.

    Simeon won Bristol Young Musician of the Year 2019; and is a trained clarinettist and saxophonist.

     

    company understudy – Holly fry

    Holly trained at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts.

    Her theatre credits include Christmas No.1 (Hijinx Theatre), Refugee Asylum Monologues (The Albany) Othello (The London Theatre) and Grab ‘Em By The Cerebellum (Arcola Theatre). Her TV and Film Credits include Casualty (BBC), Daddy Daze (BFI/Towerblock Pictures) and Unspeakable (BFI/Ffilm Cymru), on cinematic release next year.

    With a passion for comedy and accents, she was shortlisted for best Comedy at The Funny Women Awards. Holly’s passion also extends to all things Christmassy, and she is thrilled to be joining the cast and crew of The TFT festive show.

     

    musician – alex lupo

    Alex is a composer, performer and sound designer who has played, recorded and written music all over the world. Alex has collaborated with and worked alongside PJ Harvey, Charlotte Harding, The Paraorchestra, and The Terra Collective, among others.

    Performance, composition and sound design credits in theatre include ‘Twelfth Night’ (Shakespeare’s Globe), International touring production of ‘Dead Dog in a Suitcase and other love songs’ (Kneehigh), ‘The Tin Drum’ (kneehigh), ‘Ubu Karaoke’ (Kneehigh), ’Calvino Nights’ (Mike Shepard), ‘London Tide’ (National Theatre), International touring production of ‘Wuthering Heights’ (Wise Children) AND Macbeth (Tobacco Factory Theatres).
