Yesterday evening, in a break between the downpours and on a particularly busy evening in the Bristol arts calendar, the sun streamed through the windows of our Factory Theatre Bar as we held our May – Aug 2016 Season Launch.
Chair of our Trustees, Sarah Smith, raised a glass to Ali Robertson as he launched his final season at Tobacco Factory Theatres before his move to Kneehigh at the end of May.
Ali took us through the season and remarked on the proliferation of arts and culture events he’s seen in Bristol in the 8 years he has been here – testament to this was that our launch went on alongside press nights and launches across the city the same evening.
It’s a great moment in the year when we announce not only our spring/summer May – Aug season but we also let you know fantastic new in-house productions and co-productions for the autumn, including our annual opera season (see Don Giovanni) and our much anticipated Christmas show (the return of our in-house production and hit success – Cinderella: A Fairytale).
Here’s what Ali has to say about the season:
“After eight years, this is the last season I will have the privilege of announcing. It’s been a joy to welcome the wonderful shows and audiences we have had through our doors while I have been Director here. I am thrilled to leave you with a season that is studded with remarkable artists and companies and I’m very excited to look ahead to new in-house production ventures for the autumn.” (Read more about Ali’s departure here)
