Tobacco Factory Theatres are delighted to announce Clifton College as production sponsor for the upcoming in-house production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, which is set to open on the Factory Theatre stage this February.
Macbeth is the second in-house offering of Shakespeare under the direction of our very own Artistic Director and CEO, Heidi Vaughan, to be put on the Factory stage with the full TFT treatment, and will feature Bristol based artists performing one of the Bard’s most famous stories up close and in the round. Clifton College is a long-standing supporter of TFT’s work and have given their assistance in various forms across the years; including supporting the production of The Winter’s Tale last year.
The ongoing support of Clifton College reflects a strong belief in the value of TFT’s work with school-aged pupils throughout the city. Through productions, the Young Theatre Maker programmes, and Get Involved workshops, TFT continues to inspire learning, creativity, and a lasting passion for the arts.
Heidi Vaughan, Artistic Director and CEO of Tobacco Factory Theatres said;
We are delighted to be working in partnership with Clifton College once more as headline supporter for our production of Macbeth. Their ongoing support has been instrumental in making this production possible, providing not only practical resources but a genuine belief in the power of young people engaging deeply with Shakespeare.
The support doesn’t stop there, TFT’s Get Involved Team are working hard within our community programmes and in local schools providing Shakespeare based workshops and wrap around activity to the production enabling us to continue to prove that Shakespeare remains urgently relevant when young artists are trusted to lead the storytelling. To have this kind of access to a Shakespeare production that is being made right here in their home city, to make the learning real, is something that we are immensely proud of.”
Head of Clifton College, Dr Tim Greene said;
“We are thrilled to sponsor the Tobacco Factory’s Shakespeare production for a second consecutive year. Last year’s show was enthralling and I am sure this year’s production of Macbeth will be equally marvellous.
Bristol has a very strong creative sector, and as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of our own theatre, supporting the Tobacco Factory’s initiative to make theatre more accessible provides the perfect partnership to promote the transformative benefits of Performing Arts.”
Tickets for all schools groups are £15pp for the entire run, offering a 55% discount on top price tickets. School groups will also be able to take advantage of free tickets for teachers, which are being offered for groups of 10 or more.
Shakespeare’s Macbeth is a ruthless exploration of ambition, power, and the cost of forsaking the greater good. When Macbeth hears a prophecy that he is destined to rule, his desire for power overrides loyalty, love, and reason. Together with Lady Macbeth, he steps over the threshold of conscience – and into a world where guilt festers, trust is shattered, and violence begets violence.
This is the story of a man who betrays his own moral compass in pursuit of status – and finds that once ambition replaces love, there is no way back. Set against a backdrop of political turmoil and supernatural dread, Macbeth speaks urgently to our own times: when individualism triumphs over community, the consequences are irreversible.
Macbeth runs at Tobacco Factory Theatres from the 17 February to 28 March 2026 with matinee and evening performances available. To find our more about access performances or check availability – click here.
