2022 Christmas show announced in partnership with New International Encounter

Tobacco Factory Theatres in partnership with the award-winning New International Encounter (NIE) and Cambridge Junction, are delighted to announce their 2022 Christmas show, The Snow Queen, which will run at the theatre from 01 December 22 to 15 January 23.

Over the past 20 years, NIE has created 39 shows and performed more than 3500 times in over 1000 places across three continents.

New International Encounter is an award-winning international and multilingual theatre company based at Cambridge Junction, with an office in Oslo and performers based across Europe. NIE work with playful stories that connect us all by creating performance and art projects for and with young people. NIE have toured to 34 countries in 3 continents, from Cape Town to Shanghai as well as working locally with schools in Cambridge and Cambridgeshire on creative learning projects.

“We are so happy to be returning to Bristol to share our magical production The Snow Queen with the city’s audiences. It is the ideal show to share across generations, full of adventure, music, a flying reindeer, crows, bandits, magic, laughter and an epic story-telling about friendship and hope”
    – Alex Byrne, Artistic Director at New International Encounter.

NIE was selected to take part in the renowned Assitej World Congress in Copenhagen / Malmo in May 2011 (an international festival celebrating children’s theatre). At the closing event of the 10-day festival, NIE was awarded the prestigious 2011 Assitej Award for Artistic Excellence. This international award is only given every three years and is the first time a Norway or UK company has won the award since its inception in 1993.

Prior to that, the company was formed in 2001, when it rehearsed its first three shows in the old Sokol gymnastic hall in Mseno, a small town in the north of the Czech Republic. Those three shows – My Long Journey Home, Past Half Remembered and The End of Everything Ever – won numerous awards and were performed all over the world, from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to New York, Mexico City and Seoul. They now form the European Narratives Trilogy, and still tour together for special festivals.
