One of Bristol’s most beloved community events, Story Slam is the place to hear and share true stories live on stage
Hosted on the third Sunday of each month, the show has played host to thousands of storytellers over the years. And you could be one of them. Anybody can get up and share a story on the Story Slam stage. Simply come along and put your name in the hat for a chance to tell a story, or just come along and listen to everyone else’s.
The monthly shows each have their own theme, and are hosted by a variety of loving and compassionate compères, who guide the audience through stories ranging from the hilarious and triumphant, to the heartbreaking and tragic.
You’re never quite sure what you’re going to hear at Story Slam, which is why it’s one of the most popular long running shows in the city.

TELLING A STORY
Wanna tell a story? No problem! Simply come along to an event and follow instructions on the day for a chance to tell a story.
STORY RULES
Storytellers must follow a few simple rules:
Stories must be true
Told in first person. The storyteller should be a major character in the story.
Told in 5 minutes or less
Performances must be stories. No rants, stand-up routines, poetry or monologues.
Told without notes or props.
CONTENT WARNINGS
In the interest of making the Story Slam a safe and comfortable place to be, storytellers are able to attach content warnings to their stories to warn of any sensitive topics. Details of how to do this will be explained on the day. Content warnings are read out before each story to give people a chance to leave the room if they so wish.
ACCESSIBILITY
The Wardrobe Theatre has full step free access to the theatre and the stage. If you have any specialised requirements to attend that we can help with, please get in touch. And if there’s anything else we can do to help make the event more accessible to you, just let us know.
AGE LIMIT
Story Slam has no age limit, however the live and spontaneous nature of the show means that profanity and adult themes are to be expected. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult, but parental discretion is advised.
