How we produce

A truly great theatre is measured by its consistent production of brilliant shows, so we’re investing ambitiously in creating more productions and co-productions and thus offering more incredible opportunities to local artists. We want to bring world-class directors, actors, and musicians to Tobacco Factory Theatres and to invest in developing new talent from Bristol and the South West.

    Our past co-productions have included:

    Cinderella: A Fairytale
Co-produced with Travelling Light Theatre Company and directed by Sally Cookson. Olivier Award-nominated and Off West End Award-winner.

    Blue Heart by Caryl Churchill
Co-produced with the Orange Tree Theatre and directed by David Mercatali. 3 times Off West End Award-nominated.

    The Weir by Conor McPherson
Co-produced with the Sherman Theatre and directed by Rachel O’Riordan.

    Champ by Sam Bailey
Directed by Jesse Jones. Sam and Jesse both members of the Old Vic 12.

Co-produced with Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory (stf) and directed by Richard Twyman. Subsequent tour co-produced between stf and English Touring Theatre.

We want to expand our production portfolio with ambitious new ideas and partnerships. However as we’re a very small team, we aren’t able to discuss all ideas we receive in person. So if you’d like to propose an idea for a production or co-production, please email a single page pitch to Senior Producer Kerrie Burke-Avery at

We will discuss your idea and then suggest a meeting if we’re interested in exploring it further.

If you’re a locally-based director, designer, lighting designer, sound designer, composer, musical director, choreographer, movement director, fight director or stage manager and you’d like to work on our productions, please send your CV to
